A modern take on the forefathers as Ushpizin ~ guests in our sukkah each night.  This sukkah design is based on an original metal-cut that beautifies the Pinah Chamah in Hevron ("warm corner" coffee spot where soldiers on duty can take a break and grab a bite to eat).
 
The design is inspired by the soldiers who serve in Hevron to protect our heritage and Jewish presence in the land.  The symbol of the brigade that serves hereis  nestled within branches of a carob tree. The carob tree draws its significance from the Talmudic story (Ta’anit 23a) ~ One day Choni was journeying on the road and he saw a man planting a carob tree.  He asked him: “How long does it take for this tree to bear fruit?”  The man replied: “Seventy years.” He then asked him: “Are you certain that you will live longer than seventy years?”. The man replied: “I found ready grown carob trees in the world; as my forefathers planted these for me so too I plant these for my children”.  These carob branches symbolize the connection to our history in Hevron and the legacy that is being protected here for future generations.  
וזוכר חסדי אבות ומביא גואל לבני בניהם למען שמו באהבה
He who recalls the kindness of the patriarchs and brings a redeemer to their children’s children for His Name’s sake with love (daily Amidah prayer).   As God remembers our forefathers, may He also look lovingly onto their children’s children who faithfully serve here with honor and kindness. May the hearts of our ancestors be reflected in these soldiers and all who come to spend time in this space. 
 
A portion of the profits from this design will be donated to The Hebron Fund for the upkeep of the IDF soldier rest and refreshment area (Pinah Chamah).
